ぎ【義】

1 〔条理･正義〕 justice; righteousness; a just cause; 〔人道〕 humanity; 〔徳義〕 morality; probity; integrity; 〔体面〕 honor; 〔信義〕 faith; 〔忠義〕 loyalty; 〔義気〕 chivalry; heroism; self-sacrifice.

●義のために死す die in the cause of justice; die in a just cause

・義のために立つ make a stand for justice [a good cause].

●義を重んじる respect justice; value honor

・義を見てせざるは勇なきなり. To see what is right yet not do it is a sign of cowardice. | Knowing what is right without practicing it betrays one's lack of courage.
